About

Museum History

In 2002 a group of local veterans formed the Museum Founding Committee. The committee’s task was to develop the guiding principles for the Museum and to articulate a vision for what the Museum would look like and how it would operate. The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum (CCVMM) was incorporated by the State of California as a Section 501(c)3 non-profit organization. CCVMM is housed in the San Luis Obispo Veterans Memorial Building through the generosity of the County of San Luis Obispo.

Since CCVMM opened in 2002, our collection of artifacts, documents, pictures, firearms, and uniforms has continually grown thanks to the donations of people from communities on the Central Coast and throughout the United States. As a result, the number and thoroughness of the displays have grown.

Museum volunteers have donated their time and effort to make it possible for us to share their knowledge with our visitors and to become increasingly involved in community events.
