Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony & BBQ

May 26 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Join us at 11:00 am on Monday, May 26th for an annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony taking place outside at the American Legion, Post #66 in San Luis Obispo located at 801 Grand Avenue. Co-hosted by American Legion Post 66 and the Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum.

Our community will come together on this special day, to honor and remember all who lost their lives making the ultimate sacrifice during their service to our country.  The ceremony includes a musical performance by the San Luis Obispo County Band with the Morro Bay White Caps, and vocals by the Central Coast Harmony Chorus.

From 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, a BBQ pulled pork lunch will be provided onsite by Post 66, with a sandwich, coleslaw, chips and drink. Due to limited resources, we recommend pre-reserving a lunch plate for Memorial Day, by contacting our BBQ coordinator, Yvonne at (805) 459-4015. All lunch donations benefit the American Legion, Post 66.

The Veterans Museum will be open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, with free tours of new displays and exhibits including a special, temporary exhibit, “250 Years of The Army” coordinated by the Museum’s Cal Poly History Interns.

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum (CCVMM) is a local museum in San Luis Obispo with free admission, created in 2002 to honor veterans and their historical artifacts from past and present, with emphasis on those from the Central Coast of California.

The Museum collects, displays and maintains historical and military artifacts from WWI to modern conflicts for the education and enjoyment of the public, including an archives and armory room.  The Museum is run by local volunteers, providing outreach and education programs to local schools, service clubs and events. If you would like to become a volunteer at the Museum, we are actively seeking additional volunteers! The Veteran’s Museum is the only museum in California displaying a piece of the USS Arizona, from the National Monument, and also serves as the designated location in the region working in partnership with the Library of Congress to record Central Coast Veteran’s oral histories as a free service, part of the Nationwide Veterans Oral History Project. Donations are needed to support our mission. Follow us on social media to stay connected. For more information on how to volunteer, support or become a museum member, visit www.vetmuseum.org or contact Museum Director, Bart Topham at (805) 543-1763 or [email protected].
